The ever-increasing diversity of our communities in Wisconsin and across the nation warrants increased cultural awareness on the part of public health professionals. By understanding the importance of cultural awareness, cultural competence and cultural humility, public health professionals will be better equipped to eliminate the long-standing disparities in the health and mental health status of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups. This module provides a basic foundation in the philosophy, values, and conceptual frameworks of cultural competence and cultural humility.  

 

What Does Population Health Mean Today?

Professionalism photoNow, more than ever, public health practitioners and organizations must work at the intersection between public health practice and clinical care, or what has come to be referred to by many as population health. 

The webinar includes information about how the definition of population health has changed over the past several decades, how it relates to public health practice, and some of the advantages and obstacles to improving population health in the changing healthcare marketplace. 

 

On-line Capstone Certificate in Leadership for Population Health Improvement

Many of our communities are facing complex and multi-faceted problems, such as high rates of obesity, low access to health care services, and underage alcohol misuse and abuse, to name just a few.  Tackling these issues will require more effective leadership in public health agencies and other organizations whose policies, programs, and practices significantly influence population health and well-being.  This certificate program engages participants to build on their professional training and experience by providing new knowledge, skills, and cutting-edge strategies for population health improvement.

The certificate, which has been designed to be completed in one calendar year, consists of four, 3-credit courses.

Professionalism is also an important aspect of being a successful public health practitioner.
